Easel Desk Calendar

Hey Crafters!

Hope you're all having a fab week. Last weekend I set myself a challenge to make something that could be given as a Christmas gift. I had some calendar tabs in a docrafts goody bag I bought back in August and wanted to use those.

I knew what colours I wanted to use just didn't quite know how to get myself started and with thanks to reading many blogs and watching YouTube videos I set about making an Easel Desk Calendar.

 

It was easier than I expected and can I just say that not only am I proud of myself for making this but I LOVE it!! I will definitely be making more of these to give as gifts over Christmas. 

Black and silver is one of my favourite colour combos, it looks so classy and stylish. I started off with a white pearlised 6x6  pre-scored card I found lying about for my easel and then cut an A4 white pearlised piece of card stock to 6x6 as the front of my easel desk calender. Embossed my silver card stock with my Rose Plaid embossing folder matt and layered it with some black card stock added some liquid pearls and clear gems. 

I Love This Saying!!

I Stamped my sentiment, using an IndigoBlu stamp set onto some silver scrap card (also free with a magazine a few months back) fussy cut it out and stuck it on. With the scrap pieces of card I punched my butterflies out added black and clear gems to those Et Voila, a nice handmade Christmas gift I'm sure everyone will love!

Challenge | Daring Cardmakers - Something Old, Something New

Hey Crafters!!

Looks like I'm finally getting into the swing of blogging and sharing my creations with you! 

I've been finding new craft blogs everyday and came across one called Daring Cardmakers, they post challenges every week with a theme. After seeing the creations from the talented DT it really got me excited and I wanted to try it. 

The theme this week is Something Old, Something New. Since I'm new to the craft blogging world and getting back into crafting on a regular basis most of my stash is pretty new but I did stumble upon a couple of sheets of stickers that I bought well over 2 years ago.  

When I bought them I remember saying to myself that they would make great toppers for cards. Usually when I make cards I just let it happen but with this I had to think about a lot of things and I did struggle with idea overload and had to give myself a break. 

I ended up coming up with this really simple but really pretty birthday card! I love it. I used a pre-scored card that was pearlised and 6x6" in size. I matt and layered the pastel pink paper and some holographic mirri card. I embossed the mirri card with my new embossing folder Rose Plaid from Crafters Companion. 

For the sentiment I used a stamp set I got free in this months Papercraft Essentials magazine. I had to add some bling and finished it off with an insert. I really like this card, even though it's only a simple one. I hope you all like it.

A Birthday Dinsosaur

Hey Crafters!

I've got another card for you today but this time it's a birthday card I made. I found a dinosaur topper floating about in my stash and he just called out to me to be used.

I wanted to make something fun and bright so chose a yellow pre-scored card to use then cut a strip of green paper 5.5x13cms and added a strip of red patterned card stock cut at 12.5x4cms. 

Before I glued my 2 strips together I added some blue ribbon to the red card glued it all together and popped on a yellow button to finish it off.

Again, something simple but slowly inspiration is getting the better of me and I have a couple of ideas I want to try out in mind.

Fairy Christmas Cards

Hey Crafters! 

It's Friday and the weekend is finally here! Hurray!!!

I made these cute little cards a couple of weeks ago. The toppers were bought from the craft stall in my local market. I love a bit of decoupage and you got 2 per sheet which is such good value esp since you could get 3 sheet for £1. I chose 3 sheets of the red design and 3 sheets of the green design.

I made this one first and really loved how it turned out. It's all about simple but looking pretty with me at the moment. I used black card stock to make the cards which are a standard 6x4" (A6) then added red paper which I ripped for the background. A few red gems for a bit of bling in the corners and that was the card done. 

I made the green ones similar to the red since I liked how they turned out. I used white pre-scored cards this time, again these were A6 size. 

I used silicone glue for the decoupage then foam pads to give the topper some dimension.

I added my own inserts just to finish them off. Even though I've been crafting on and off for years I've only gotten into properly over the last few months so I promise my cards will get much more exciting! Hahaha!!

My first set of Christmas cards

So today I've got two sets of Christmas cards I made back in August to share with you. Both were made with card kits that were bought from Tesco, I'd say a couple of years ago that I came across in my stash. They're both really cute kits and look so simple but really nice once I finished.

In the kits you already had the blank cards and envelopes, along with the toppers and sentiments. The great thing about the cards is that they were double sided designs, so you could choose whether you wanted to use the front or back. 

  These were the first cards I made, I just love the simplicity of them and how elegant they look. Simple but pleasing to the eye. There was so much more I could do to them but I didn't want to go too overboard and take the focus away from the baubles and trees.  

I made my own inserts and glued them onto the inside of the cards just to finish them off. 

The second set I did were these really cute character cards. Again there was so much more I wanted to add but just opted to add some snow like glitter to the Snowman and Santa's beard and the whites in his suit. I also added some googly eyes to the reindeer.  

It's such a shame that I couldn't pick up how sparkly it looks. It just finished them off nicely. Again I made my own inserts and glued those to the insides of this set.   

 
The last two of this set I made landscape. Again I didn't add much more, just glitter for the snowflakes and googly eyes to the Christmas tree and reindeer. You can see the glitter was picked up a little better in these photos. I made my own inserts and glued them onto the inside of my cards.

For my inserts I just added some clip art pictures to give them that something extra.

Requested cards

Hey Crafters!!

Sorry for being so quiet lately but I haven't had any time to blog so I will be catching up on all the cards and crafty things I've made over the last couple of months. Now the weather is getting colder I will have much more time to sit t my computer and stay up to date for you guys.

So, I've got a couple of cards that I was requested to make a good few months ago that I just had to share with you guys as they are just too pretty not too! 

 
The first one is a card is a new job card that the girls in work asked me to make. I used the "Work Hard, Play Hard" Hunkydory Topper set from their Special Moments & Milestones Collection for this card and of course added my own little touch just to finish it off. I really liked how this turned out.

The second card that I was asked to make was for a 21st Birthday. I was pretty much left to my own devices for this card and came up with this. I used another Hunkydory topper set "Handbag Heaven" from the Touch Of Style Collection that I received for free as a member's gift for joining Club Hunkydory. I raised the middle for dimension and added pink ribbon along the bottom for the sentiment and die cut 21. I love a bit of bling so added some gems for that finishing touch.

I also added this cute insert that I had laying around in my stash that I thought just finished the card off. This card was a hit and I used all the right elements for the birthday girl. It's so girlie and I adore this one. It has to be one of my favourites so far.

Mixed Greetings Card Set

Hey Crafters!!

Hope you're all having a good start to the week. So the card set I have for you today I actually made a couple of months back and totally forgot about them until now. 

They are from a card kit I've had in my stash for a good few years and since I'm slowly sorting through it I'm finding some amazing stuff I didn't even know I had. 

I actually quite like how these cards turned out and the papers I used. I wouldn't normally go for quirky but I just let myself go with these. I made a mixed bag of cards because I know I've made quite a few birthday ones lately so wanted to shake it up a bit. 

I found the papers and card stock from this kit really easy to use and I loved the different textures and patterns. I'm really pleased with these. 

Out of the set I think this one is my favourite because I turned it into a magnetic opening tri-fold card which I thought was just awesome and I haven't seen many cards like this around. This would even make a great money/gift card wallet to give as a gift.

My First Attempt At Making Easel Cards

Good Afternoon again you crafty lot! So, last night I attempted to make my first ever Easel cards. I really love how they look after they are finished and so after watching numerous YouTube videos I attempted it. 

And thankfully the cards didn't tun out too bad. I was surprised at how easy they were to make too. I used 6x6 white card blanks from my stash. Scored the middle of the front. It really was THAT easy!!

I made this cute little Dinosaur and a Cheeky Monkey. They were both part of a decoupage & card stock kit that I found in my local market. 

They are definitely great for the little ones. These turned out great and I love how bright and eye catching they are. I can't wait to try my hand at making a twisted easel card.

Card Made From Leftovers!

Good Afternoon you lovely lot! I hope you've all had a fab weekend! And so starts another week and I'm off on holiday from work so I'm hoping to have some extra card making and blogging time. I want to share with you a card I made from some leftover bits and bobs I had floating around and I totally forgot to take a photo of the leftovers I used because I still can't believe I managed to rustle up what I did. And this is a card that I am VERY proud of!

I had absolutely no ideas in mind what I was going to do, I had these really pretty felt flowers and leaves left after making a couple of scrapbook pages, then I found the cute tiny buttons with some others lying around, the blank card and green dotty square and sentiment were left overs from a couple of card kits that I must have used at some point. I just had a play with a few lay outs and this was the one I felt happy with. I used sticky foam pads for the square and sentiment then glued on the flowers, leaves, buttons and green gems. I added a small piece of lilac ribbon to the sentiment for a bit of detail and that was that. 

I hope you like this card and the simple design I came up with. 

Just A Couple Of Cards I've Made!

Hello there you beautiful lot! I hope you're having a fab week. So I managed to rustle up a few birthday cards over the last couple of days using a card kit I think was bought for me about 3 years ago! Haha, I can't believe what I'm finding.

 I really like the colours I've used for these cards. They weren't very difficult and pretty simple but sometimes simple works. I didn't want to go too overboard with the gems so I've kept them to make the cards pop a little more. I can't wait to have a proper sort out of my box and buy some new toys to have a play with. 

I used to be good at making cards so it's great to start getting my mojo back and enjoying the craft a lot more. I love these little fashion cards, great for any teen that loves clothes, bags and shoes.

You can't have a birthday card without tea cups or cakes. I love the colours of this. It's such a shame I can't remember what card kit these are from and I'm not even sure if you can still buy them. For my second attempt I'm quite pleased with how these have turned out. 

I'm definitely a little rusty at this so please bare with me until I get going again.

My First Cards!

Hi! Hope you're all having a fab weekend so far. For my first proper blog post I thought I would show you a couple of the first cards I've made, they're not great but it's all a learning curve.

  

I made these using a Daisy & Dandelion decoupage kit that I bought  a couple of years ago (at least) from Hobbycraft and popped it into my craft box and just forgot about it. I found it a couple of days ago and had a little play. I've never tried decoupage as I always thought it was quite hard and time consuming but I was wrong.

A little patience, toddler free time and I have to admit I found it quite relaxing. I used White A6 card blanks that I had stored away in my craft box and found matching ribbons and stickers that fit in with the decoupage kit colour scheme and away I went. The pink and purple ones are my favourites.

Not the best but I know once I find my mojo there will be no stopping me. I hope you like my first designs and I can't wait to share more with you.

Welcome To My Blog!!

Hi! Welcome to my blog. I'm Rachel and I've been making cards on and off now for years. It's only recently though that I have found my love again and have been getting the creative juices flowing and started making some cards.

I've been wanting to do something like this for a while now and since I only work a couple of days a week and spend the rest of my time at home with my cheeky 2 year old son Mason, I thought now would be the best time to start.

This blog is also like a little record of all the cards and other crafty things I make. Some will be good, some will be bad and some will be down right ugly! So I hope you're prepared to take this journey with me as I find my own little crafty path covered in glue and glitter, learning new things every day and sharing my ideas along the way.
